#EverydayInspiralized: Spiralized Sweet Potato Fried Rice

One of my first rice recipes on this blog and still to this date one of my most popular, let me introduce: sweet potato fried rice.

This healthy, spiralized version of fried rice using spiralized sweet potatoes that have been pulsed into rice-like bits instead of, well, “regular rice.

There’s something about the sweetness and texture of the sweet potatoes that make this highly nutritious version of fried rice a hit. I make it all the time in the winter – it saves well for work lunches and is totally customizable.

Top it with shrimp, chicken, pork, or amp up the protein the vegan way, with edamame or tofu.

What I love most about this recipe is that it comes together quickly, so you can literally order your favorite beef and broccoli and by the time it arrives, you’ll have a healthy side rice dish to go with it! After all, it’s all about balance, right? And a piping container of beef and broccoli is kinda hard to give up!

  • Love the video, Ali! I love making sweet potato rice - I recently did sweet potato rice burrito bowls and I don't think I'm ever going back. Quick question - What are those rubber cups that you use for your ingredients? Need!!
    • Great idea! You can find a link to them here: https://inspiralized.com/2016/03/23/must-have-kitchen-tools-and-gadgets-for-the-healthy-cook/
  • It looks great Ali!!! I can't wait to try it :) Nice and simple yet it looks so tasty! I will probably also add either some chicken or shrimp just to make it a complete meal. Thanks again for all of your wonderful recipes! Chris in Virginia
    • You're so sweet! Thank you so much!
  • AlI, Do you have a substitute for soy sauce? I am allergic to soy.
      • Caution!!! Tamari is soy sauce! (....but it does not contain wheat like other "soy sauce" brands)
  • Very tasty ! .
  • Great tutorial! For gluten free or anti-soy, Braggs Liquid Aminos would be a great substitute - I plan to try this! THANKS!
    • I tried the Liquid Aminos, but didn't like it. I prefer Coconut Aminos. It doesn't taste like coconut at all. I hate the taste of coconut, so I would know!
  • Hiya, this looks great and I'm definitely gonna try to make it this week (maybe even tonight if I go get eggs!) ... Just wanted to check something though.. in the original recipe (via your link above) you added broth in the ingredient to help cook the sweet potato rice but it's not in this version. Any particular reason? Love your recipes that I've tried so far! Thanks...
  • I absolutely love sweet potatoes NOW but I loved fried rice with eggs as a child! I can't believe you combined my childhood favorite with a present favorite of mine into one recipe! So delicious! Pinned and tweeted!
  • Love the video showing how to make the dish. Can't wait to try it. What a great alternative way to use a sweet potato. thanks for all your great recipes
  • Thanks for the video, I am looking forward to fixing this dish this weekend. Just a comment, you used the same fork to eat with that had beaten the raw eggs. That created an opportunity for food-borne illness. Love the nutrient quality of this dish!
  • Great clear instructions. I have to laugh and tell you what I do with some of my end pieces and tube like pieces Our chicken (yes we have free range hens) loves the zucchini and cucumber ends and tubes
  • Any suggestions as far as your smaller food processor? Your recipe looks mouth-watering and I can't wait to try it. Great video - thank you!!
    • Yes, this is the one I recommend: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000645YM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0000645YM&linkCode=as2&tag=inspiralized-20&linkId=43DIGZT57EM24A3I
  • Hi Ali, I am thrilled that you have your Inspiralizer back in stock. My husband just ordered one for me just in time for Mother's Day. We have been married for 39 years and are blessed with two handsome sons, one beautiful daughter-in-law and three grandbabies. Our oldest grandson and I both have digestive problems....since I have been making your recipes we have both been feeling so much better. I have been using a mandolin to make your recipes and now will be able to make the "Curly Q's" that my grandson wants. We are very excited for our package to arrive. I do have one question please. I have watched your video for the Sweet Potato Fried Rice twice but it does not match the instructions for the printed copy of the recipe, you don't add any broth in the video. I just need to know if I need the broth or not.
  • ALI JUST WANT TO SAY HOW MARVELOUS YOU MAKE ALL YOUR SPIRALISED MEALS " YOUR A SPECTACULAR SPIRALIZER SENSATION " KEEP UP YOUR FANTASTIC WORK & RECIEPES THANK YOU !
  • I loved this recipe! I've made the cauliflower fried rice also but I like this one even more! Thank you so much for all your great healthy inspirations!
  • Thanks for the fab recipe I must give it a try. What speed peeler do you use in your recipe - thanks
  • The fried rice reciepe is sooooo delicious. If I didn't cook myself I would have thought it was true rice. Ali your recipes are so delicious. I bought your book although I use ur online recipes. I have used Zukini instead of the peas and olive oil instead of coconut oil and still it was delicious. Keep the good work.
    • Hi Azza, we're so happy you enjoyed this recipe so much! Thank you so much for your support.
  • This recipe is awesome! To make it a "bowl" meal I browned ground turkey with the onions and added chopped cilantro and green onions just before serving. Yummy!!
