Bikini bodies aren’t made in the summer. They’re made in the winter and spring!

I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely watching my chocolate intake these days, looking forward to feeling good at the beach on Memorial Day weekend.

It’s no secret that eating Inspiralized can help you lose weight – my recipes are generally low-carb, low-calorie and jam-packed with healthy fats and lean proteins.

It’s rare that you’ll see a high-calorie recipe on this blog. Now, I’m not a calorie counter by any means, but when I want to feel a little slimmer or need a healthier week of eating after a particularly indulgent weekend, I’ll opt for “low calorie” and “low carb” recipes that have lean proteins and healthy fats.

Never live by a calorie count – it can only lead to serious calorie restriction, deprivation and an unhealthy food obsession.

However, I think it’s completely “healthy” to understand calories, carbohydrates, proteins, sugars, sodium and other nutrient levels. Knowing the basics helps you lose weight without stressing over what you’re consuming. You should definitely understand that eating 1,200 calories a day is more effective than eating 3,000 (if you’re a moderately active person looking to lose weight.)

Not all calories are created equal

Along the same lines, eating a 100 calorie apple is a lot different than eating 100 calories of a Snickers bar.

If you’ve ever hesitated to have an apple after dinner, you’re doing something wrong. If you’ve doubted whether you should have a Snickers bar after dinner, that’s a good thing.

Not all calories are created equal. If you eat clean, you don’t have to worry about calories (within reason.)

Weight loss is a sticky science, but I strongly believe that eating lower calorie or simply “lighter” dinners can really help. Most often, I’ll eat a larger breakfast and lunch and then end the night with a fully-loaded zucchini pasta and a light snack.

That’s the “Eat like a King for breakfast, a Prince for lunch and a Pauper for dinner” mindset.

While not all bodies react the same to certain diet lifestyles, that’s what works for me. If you’re like me or you’re a strict calorie counter (I won’t judge), then you’ll enjoy today’s roundup of 5 Spiralized Meal Ideas Under 350 Calories.

  • I'm trying to stop calorie counting. I'm a dietitian so it's super hard to stop, it's been engrained in my head for so long! But I agree, calorie counting creates such a negative tone towards food. I definitely feel a difference mentally when I don't count. My stress is reduced and I don't feel so anxious about food anymore-- just creates a healthier, more positive attitude towards eating!
    • I, on the other hand, do much better when I track what I'm eating and count the calories. It helps me (mentally) identify if I'm genuinely hungry or if maybe I'm just bored, stressed, etc. The only difference I feel when I don't count is that my clothes end up eventually fitting tighter. And then I feel stressed and anxious about food. Knowing what (and how much) I'm putting into my body affords me control, which (to a type-A personality, at least) is what I crave. I think it's very interesting how different everyone reacts to the whole food/pleasure/nutrition relationship.
  • How can I post these great recipes to Pinterest
  • I tried the sweet potato with asparagus and organic, gluten free chicken sausage without pork casings. Very tasty! I guess the potato i used was huge, as we used all five of the sausages. My husband polished off all but about one serving. Question: What do you do with the ends and the cylindrical pieces of veggies remaining after you spiralize? Do you store them up to make baked fries or something? or other ideas? Just curious...
    • Great question!! I thought about this for a while, too. What I have been doing is saving the "stumps" in a zip-lock bag in my fridge. I use the Spiralizer so much that I end up with a bag full in a few days. What I do with them depends on what remnants I have. I've chopped them and added to soup, I've steamed them and frozen for use in soup later, and I've chopped and sauteed them and used them in other recipes, like risotto or frittata.
  • Yummm Ali! every time I come to your page, I fall in love with more of your recipes, and get even more mad I do not have a spiralizer! I wannnttt one! I am not trying to lose weight because I would waste away running my 80 miles a week, but I love to have high nutrition meals, so these would be great....I will just double the portions :)
  • We made fried rice, feta chicken and spinach as well as the bolognese. SOOO good. Love this site!! Looking forward to eating well while shedding some pounds before summer. Thanks Ali!
  • I just bought a cheap small spiralizer to try some veggies which I normally wouldnt have. I made spiralized zuchinni and squash sauteed in garlic and a little bit of olive oil and had with grilled boneless pork chops, my husband and I totally enjoyed it was like eating spaghetti without all the fat. I bought a spiralized recipe book and made sausage with spiralized sweet potato it was delicious. I will follow your sight as your recipes looked delicious, I hope this helps me lose weight too. :)
