Thank you for sharing your experiences, Ali! I am 6 months into nursing my 2nd and so far this experience has been quite different from our first. Both my kids have multiple food allergies, but with my daughter she was always able to tolerate my milk keeping her allergens in my diet. My son, however, has much worse allergies. I've had to cut all his allergens from my diet to be able to keep BF him. Going on almost 2 months now (no dairy, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, or shellfish). It's been really challenging and every morning when I nurse him I'm proud we've made it one more day. I'd like to continue until he's a year but 6 more months of a restricted diet seems daunting. I BF my daughter 17 months and feel I "owe him" the same length of time, especially because his body seems to need immune help so much more. I just want to thank you again for reiterating that every kid is different (seems like a no brainer, but we're constantly shocked how different our two babes are) and thus every nursing journey is different. Helps reduce some mom guilt.

Thank you for sharing! I am 5 months into nursing my son and going back to work next week. I work in medicine and will be wearing a mask and face shield all day, so I know my calories and hydration will suffer. If I'm not able to keep up with his needs by pumping at work, I'm content with knowing that I did everything I could and he got my breastmilk for as long as he did. But it'll be so hard when it ends if I'm not ready to be done. Such an emotional journey for sure!
